14 apps I’d like to see updated, 14: Circuit Synth

This is a great little app to end on. Circuit synth is a simple modular if that isn’t an oxymoron. It’s great for learning synthesis concepts and for playing, and in some ways it doesn’t need an update although I could’ve seen a more complex version or a pro IAP or something in there. It also has a nice little way of sharing patches which was quite handy.

So, yes I’d like to have seen this updated, but again, it works as it is and in some ways you could argue it should stay as it is. Either way, it’s a good place to end this little series. It’s been fun.

14 apps I’d like to see updated, 13: Mujik

This one doesn’t really count. Lucky Frame made Mujik as their first ever foray into mobile music. It’s a lovely app, a great experience and in many ways I can’t think of what I’d like to have improved in it. However, I think that if Lucky Frame did update it, it would be amazing.

I love it as it is though. So, maybe no update needed?

14 apps I’d like to see updated, 12: Randgrid synthesizer and drum machine

Randgrid was one of the first ‘2 synths and a drum machine’ type apps, but it had some interesting features all of it’s own, like a great randomise feature for example. It hasn’t been updated for a very long time now. In fact, I’m amazed that it’s still on the app store at all.

It falls into the category of things I’d like to see updated and almost given a whole re-working. I doubt it’ll happen, but it would be really interesting if it did.

14 apps I’d like to see updated, 11: Pianofly

Pianofly is the only iOS app from the awesome miniMusic, the maker of great Palm OS apps. I’ve been hoping that one day we’ll see the other miniMusic app, Tympanum, but nothing so far. I’d like to see Pianofly get an update, go universal etc. Maybe in the not too distant future.

14 apps I’d like to see updated, 10: ELECTRIFY (and ELECTRIFY to go)

Actually ELECTRIFY did have an update not too long ago, but it was really a bug fix release and it hasn’t seen any new functionality in a long time now. It’s a shame, I know I keep saying that, but it is. These two apps had loads of potential and could be really great if they were updated to include a few features that are pretty much common now.

Another lovely app that hasn’t seen much attention for a very long time. I’m a fan of the whole concept behind flourish. It’s such a good idea. I would have loved to have seen some better sound processing and effects, but I’m doubting that the app will be updated now. At least it is still on the app store though.

Another app that we all loved when it arrived and then as time has gone on it hasn’t been updated. Of course Amidio have said that they were bringing a new version of Hexatone, but nothing’s arrived so far. I’m looking forward to it. I still think that Hexatone is a great idea.

triqtraq – pattern jamming

 So that didn’t take a long time, here’s what’s new for triqtraq:

• record your real-time jams, patterns and queues to .wav
• export your recordings to Soundcloud, Audio Copy, E-mail or iTunes
• import sounds with Audio Paste (via the User tab in Load Samples)
• retina graphics for iPhone

14 apps I’d like to see updated 7: Toro Mini

Sadly it looks like this is another app that’s vanished from the app store. There was talk of it getting an iPad version, but I’m guessing it wasn’t really viable. I really liked it as a synth app. It had a mix of features and sound generation that just worked for me. I’m always sad to see something like this disappear, but it is understandable.

So whilst I’d like to see it come back I doubt it will.

14 apps I’d like to see updated 6: midiPhon

I can remember when this first arrived and just being blown away by the feature set in the app. It was amazing. It has support for the SS25, and the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer too. Sadly, there’s been nothing added to it since August 2011, and if you check the site there’s no sign of activity.

It had so much potential, my guess is that it didn’t get enough attention and that was why it hasn’t moved on.
